Why NEMT Matters

Access to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services can be a lifeline for many people, allowing them to access essential medical care that would otherwise be out of reach. Take, for instance, Rosa, a single mother of two who had been experiencing chest pain for a few weeks. Concerned about her health, she scheduled an appointment with her primary care physician, who recommended that she see a cardiologist....

Mario Sena

Founder & CEO

Mario Sena started Agape Transportation Management in 2012 from a small closet of his home in the Bronx. An immigrant yellow-cab and black-car driver for 30 years, Mario surpassed 1 million miles driven in New York City alone. He recognized a need for transportation options for people who need assistance getting to doctors' appointments and medical treatments such as dialysis and radiation therapy. Together with his wife Olga and his son Danny, they began a venture that today counts over 800 drivers and serves 1000s of passengers each day.
Mario hopes to continue serving the passengers who've trusted
Agape for their vital appointments and the many drivers whose experiences he knows too well.

Mario Sena's leadership mirrors our dedication to providing exceptional medical transportation services

I absolutely love this company! The drivers and dispatch are always courteous, punctual, and kind. I've never waited more than 10 minutes to be picked up and they make it extremely easy to request a ride. They always text and call to confirm the pickup. The drivers are always pleasant and helpful. Thank you for being a professional organization.

I have been with this company for years now. It has been going down the drain in a matter of a year. Many new workers are rude and don't even say good morning. Many times they stay talking on their cell on private calls. I am always ready way before my pick up time. The other day a driver called me 4 times, I felt like I was being harassed. Very unprofessional to say the lease. Also, the text return option is not working. The owner needs to make sure that their drivers are trained properly and not have meetings where he tells them if they don't like it they can leave, this is Not good leadership. The good thing that I can say is that pick-up time is on point.Update:Agape drivers have gotten better. Pickup time is still on point.
Response from the owner: Greetings,We apologize for the interactions that may have led to this response. We are actively working towards training and maturing our team. The NYC transportation sector has not gone unaffected by world events; specifically when it comes to TLC Licensed drivers and office staffing. We're making every effort to provide the best possible service and have made great investments and great strides towards that in recent months. Its important to be aware that NYC taxi drivers are primarily Independent Contractors which means they preform services at their discretion and only receive compensation for each completed 'job.' The driver described above made every effort to provide the service and communicate with client as it would cause an even greater inconvenience if he/she only calls once and says the client is not avaible, prompting us to cancel the ride, only to need to reactivate it and send another vehicle once you call back. We're not sure where the idea of "The owner needs to make sure that their drivers are trained properly and not have meetings where he tells them if they don't like it they can leave, this is Not good leadership" but this is an inaccurate idea and not reflective of the way we communicate with drivers. We appreciate your continued use of our services and hope we can demonstrate the improvements we've been working on in the coming weeks.

Recently have been waiting way too long for them to answer after I type in return. The other night I waited an hour and a half for the base to finally text me back. Unacceptable! .......UPDATE 01/2022 Getting better, hopefully this trend will continue??? Now, if they could just have the drivers stop telling me to "hurry up" I'd give them 5 stars. I understand time is money but I can hardly walk and I'm a "fall risk" so, have a little patience and compassion please. As far as I know I've never made them wait more than 10mins tops into the 15 min (grace period) I wait for them when they're late, it's only right. I travel 7 days a week with them so they make their $$$ on me for sure, even though the ride isn't far. 10/24 - Drivers are still telling me to "hurry up". I have mobility issues. Also they complain that my rollator is "too big" I'm tired of hearing it! I can't walk without it!
Response from the owner: Good Afternoon! Thank you for the feedback. We hear you! We have been working to return our service to the standards we promote now that the pandemic is winding down. We’re currently running campaigns to encourage drivers to get back on the road. We’ve also nearly doubled our office staff in order to better serve our passengers. Thank you for sticking with us!

Why NEMT?

Access to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services can be a lifeline for many people, allowing them to access essential medical care that would otherwise be out of reach. Take, for instance, Rosa, a single mother of two who had been experiencing chest pain for a few weeks. Concerned about her health, she scheduled an appointment with her primary care physician, who recommended that she see a cardiologist. As someone who relies on public transportation, Rosa was worried about getting to the appointment, especially since the clinic was located across town. She had missed appointments in the past because of transportation issues and didn't want to risk missing this important appointment. A friend suggested she look into NEMT services, and though Rosa was hesitant at first, she decided to give it a try. When she scheduled a ride, she was pleasantly surprised when a courteous driver arrived at her door, ready to take her to the clinic. The driver made sure Rosa was comfortable during the ride and arrived on time to the appointment. After the appointment, the driver was there to take her back home. Thanks to NEMT services, Rosa was able to get the medical care she needed without having to worry about transportation. Access to NEMT services is especially important for those who live in urban areas and low-income communities, where transportation options can be limited. NEMT services offer a safe and reliable way for individuals to get to their medical appointments, regardless of their location or income. Drivers are licensed by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) to transport patients safely and efficiently, and they arrive on time to pick up patients from their homes. In addition to being reliable, NEMT drivers are courteous and professional, treating patients with respect and compassion. During the ride, they make sure patients are comfortable and safe and are happy to accommodate any special needs or requests. It is worth noting that NEMT drivers are not familiar with the patient's medical needs as a way of respecting patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. NEMT services are critical for promoting healthcare fairness and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to get the medical care they need. By using NEMT services, patients like Rosa can get to their appointments safely and on time with a courteous driver while protecting their privacy.
